The theme for our school's Teacher Appreciation Week this year is "Fun in the Sun". Thoughts of summer at the beach came to mind— building sandcastles, jumping in the waves, frisbee and of course the ice cream truck! I grew up in Ormond Beach, FL with the "world's most famous beach" just minutes away from my house. Daytona Beach was, and still is, the only beach you can drive on. Growing up, one of my favorite parts of going to the beach was walking down to the ice cream truck and getting a bomb pop (those red, white and blue ones) yum! It was fun to bring one of my favorite beach memories to life on a bulletin board at school. I think the kids will love it too. Who doesn't love ice cream?
Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream truck is beautiful!!! How did you make the red and white canopy?
ReplyDeleteThanks! Guess I should have done a tutorial on that, huh? Well, I just cut red and white strips of banner paper from the school and taped them together. Then I bought a 1/8 in round wood stick from the craft store and taped (using ductape) the the striped canopy to it. I used 20 gauge (I think) wire to prop the canopy up with ductape on each end of the wire. I used a staple gun to staple the canopy to the truck AFTER the truck was mounted to the bulletin board.
ReplyDeleteHope that helps!
Hi Melanie,
DeleteHow did you make the individual ice cream signs? It does not look like you cut out each ice cream image and glued them on. I am racking my brain on how to do this. Help if you can. I am putting this together for our elementary school for teacher appreciation week.
I look forward to seeing your Teacher Appreciation display every year! You're so talented, Melanie!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine!

I LOVE this ice cream truck and would love to replicate for my back to school bulletin board for my students. Would you be willing to share/email the posters of the ice cream treats?
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream truck idea is awesome! What are the names of the ice creams?
