A Georgia Estate

Earlier this year, I donated a Custom Mixed Media Home Painting as an auction item to the Vestavia Hills Elementary School Auction in Birmingham, AL. It's the school that my best friend Kelley's kids attend. The winners, Ken and Jackie asked me to paint their lovely estate in Georgia.

A bit about the estate—The home was built in the middle of a pecan orchard that was eventually developed into a neighborhood. Now the home sits on an acre with twelve pecan trees. It was wood originally and was brick veneered in 1935.
On the left is Jackie, the home owner and on the right is my dear friend Kelley.

I hope they like it!

A Few Custom Painted Homes— Mixed Media

Just finished this painting the other day for a repeat customer. It's for her in-laws in Tennessee. Now that's a lot of brick! I decided to cut individual bricks out of book pages for the brick trim and placed them with molding paste to create depth. As for the rest of the brick, I painted it. I also used book pages for the tree leaves and cut canvas into little squares for the shingle roof.

It was packed with care and shipped just in time for Christmas!

I painted this little bungalow for my friend Sarah. Her sweet husband surprised her with it for her birthday on the 16th (which happens to be the same as mine!).

Latest Commission— A Chicago Home

Commission
My reference

It was a pretty tedious painting that I got myself into this time. It must have been late one night when I started the brick because I decided to paint, cut and then place each brick with tweezers. Yeah, and as if that wasn't enough, I did the same thing with the shingled roof. Yes, I know. I'm insane. It took a lot longer than I thought, but I couldn't help myself.
You can kind of see the 3-D elements from the side. I used old book pages and canvas with molding paste on the house and paper-pulp for the landscape. I think my favorite part of the painting is the house numbers and the shadowing on the garage.

It ships off to the customer tomorrow. Bu-bye my little labor of love!

Finally, carving out some time to paint again! I just finished this piece for the Seminole County Healthy Start Coalition. The mission of the coalition is to provide a system of care that guarantees all families access to prenatal care ans all infants access to services that promote optimal growth and development. This painting will be auctioned off at their gala in October.

Hope everyone has a great week!

The Herron Home— Mixed Media Painting

Just finished this mixed media painting while on vacation in North Carolina. I used old book pages for the house and pallet knives for the bulk of the painting. Then went back in and added details. My favorites are the crane sculptures and the address plaque. They didn't want me to include the 4th of July decor and flag.

Love in a Cup.

8.5"x11" Illustration
"Love in a Cup"

I never thought in a million years I'd start drinking the brown stuff. But it happened. I turned 40 and started getting up at outrageously early hours to train for a marathon. Coffee got me through the first few miles. Now, two years later, I've perfected my recipe for the perfect cup of Jo and I'm completely hooked.

I used a list of "My Favorite Things" from my Blog Profile to create this illustration because my morning coffee is all of these things in one scrumptious little cup.

Mmmmmm. Can't wait 'til morning!

In loving memory of Matthew Erik Dunn

I've been thinking about my cousin Wes and his family and the loss of their oldest son Matt. I painted this last night. It's kind of a dedication to Matt and his family. Matt was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was six months old. He passed away this week due to complications from pneumonia.

I sat down to write a condolence card and couldn't seem to put my thoughts into words. So I painted them instead.
